Family Support Center of Washington County

The Family Support Center (FSC) of Washington County believes in a community-centered, family-focused approach to supporting the needs of children and families. The FSC is a non-profit organization in Saint George, Utah. that operates on funding from federal grants and the generosity of private groups and individuals. All staff members are well-trained individuals with experience in areas of child safety, family preservation, and child abuse prevention.

Services Offered

Scheduled Respite Care/Stress Break

The FSC provides Planned Respite care for children ages newborn to eleven. Planned Respite care can be requested up to three hours per week — per family, as scheduling allows. Respite care can be scheduled for almost any reason EXCEPT work-related, school, and childcare.

Crisis Care

The FSC provides Crisis Care for children ages birth through eleven. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Parents/Guardians may bring their children in for up to 72 hours at times when they are feeling stressed and out of control, or when they need to deal with personal or family crisis/emergency situations.

Parental Education

In-home parenting education course that covers the following seven objectives:

  1. Understanding Yourself and Your Child

  2. Understanding Beliefs and Feelings

  3. Encouraging Your Child and Yourself

  4. Listening and Talking to Your Child

  5. Helping Children Learn to Cooperate

  6. Discipline that Makes Sense

  7. Choosing Your Approach

About the Center

LaVelle Prince

Meet the Director

LaVelle Prince has served as the Executive Director since 2016. He has an extensive background in business management, community service, and directing Non-Profit Organizations. 

He has been serving Children & Youth and training their Leaders for over 35 years. LaVelle received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America and served as the First Mayor of the City of Taylorsville. 

He and his wife Kerrie have lived in St. George, Utah for over twenty years and enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. 

History & Impact

We serve the geographical area consisting of Washington County in the southwest corner of the State of Utah, which has a current population of 210,088. 

The main phone number to the Nursery is 435-674-5133. The 24-hour Crisis line is 435-773-0585. 

Our regular operating hours consist of 40 hours per week, except when closed for training, events, family activities or scheduled State and Federal Holidays. We are open Mondays from 10 AM to 2 PM, Tuesdays & Thursday from 10 AM to 8 PM. Wednesday & Friday, from 10 AM to 2 PM and 4 PM to 8 PM. Closed on Saturday and Sunday.  

The Mission of the Family Support Center of Washington County (FSCWC) is: To protect and empower all children and their families within our community by offering caring and respectful respite care and crisis intervention designed to strengthen families and community. In short, our focus is Protecting Children – Strengthening Families – Preventing Child Abuse

The Family Support Center of Washington County provides the following services: (1) Planned Respite Nursery Care, (2) Emergency Nursery Care, (3) Crisis Shelter Care, (4) Information Referral Service, (5) Family Strengthening Activities, and (6) Parent Education Services. 

We provide all these services at no charge to our families, regardless of situation, background or income. We serve children from newborn to eleven years of age.
